Adding search filters to a category
How do you add search filters to a category?
With search filters you can help visitors find what they're looking for more quickly. Think, for example, of filtering by location, type or attribute. Below we explain step by step how to create a filter and add it to a category, so it becomes visible in the associated management group.
Step 1: Create a new question
A search filter always starts with a new question. Create a question and give it a clear title that reflects what you want to be able to filter on.
The title of the question will be the name of the filter that the visitor sees.
Step 2: Add the options under the question
Under the question you've just created, add the various options that visitors should be able to filter on.
Each option you add here will later become a clickable filter for the visitor.
Step 3: Link the question to the correct category
To make the filter actually visible, link the question to the correct page or category. Only after you've made this link will the filter appear in the relevant management group.
Please note: always link the question to the correct category. If you link a filter to the wrong place, it won't be shown on the intended page.
Step 4: Add a sub-question if needed
Would you like to refine even further within an option? Then you can create a sub-question for each option and add the corresponding choices underneath it.
Please note: the system supports a maximum of one level below the main category. So you can create a sub-question under an option, but you cannot add an extra subcategory beneath that sub-question.
Step 5: Use the generated URLs
Once the search filters have been set up, unique URLs are automatically generated for the various options.
You can use these URLs to link specific pages or sections to a particular filter, for example to send visitors straight to a filtered overview.
Summary
- Create a new question as the basis for the filter
- Add the desired options under the question
- Link the question to the correct category so the filter becomes visible in the management group
- Add a sub-question if needed (maximum one level deep)
- Use the generated URLs to link specifically
